Abuse of privileges

An ambulance that did not have a patient on board jumped the traffic light when it was red. A couple was killed on the spot, two were injured and were admitted to the hospital, and several vehicles were damaged. The police arrested the driver. (The Hindu, 2 November 2025) Taking advantage of certain privileges and using them for selfish ends is abuse.
Indiscipline: The driver could not follow simple traffic rules, and also used the ambulance without a patient on board to show off. Self-discipline is a missing element today. Instead of keeping the body and senses under control, people are controlled by emotions and bodily lusts. However, a disciple knows the weakness of humans and does not yield to the principles of the world: lust of eyes, lust of flesh, and pride of life. (I John 2:16) Paul writes that he disciplines his body. (I Corinthians 9:27) The Holy Spirit enables a believer with self-discipline. (II Timothy 1:7)
Disregard for others: A driver’s license is issued to a person in good faith. That s/he will drive according to rules and have the safety of people on the road as a priority. For this person, his heroism as the fastest driver was more important than the lives of the passengers who used the same public road. Love your neighbour as yourself, the biblical teaching helps a person to value the rights, properties, and freedom of others. When a culture does not have such a noble teaching, there will always be disregard for the security, respect, and safety of others. (Leviticus 19:18) Abuse happens in homes, schools, offices, institutions, and even in the church, as the Royal Law is violated.
Pride and prestige: The ambulance driver was not the owner of the vehicle. However, his inflated ego gave him pride, to think of himself as the owner. The privilege given for the ambulance with patients on board was used for the prestige of the driver. Pride and prestige do not have remorse about the consequences, in this case, the death of a couple and injuries to others.
Do I respect and regard others?
