There are many scientists, inventors, explorers, innovators, and discoverers, who lead humanity in the progressive direction. Since Adam and Eve were exiled from the Garden of Eden, humanity had to survive in a hostile environment. Every breakthrough technology or discovery made life easier and more comfortable. The Book of Genesis lists such people who searched for God’s hidden gifts in nature.
Herding: Jabal is credited with the invention of herding. (Genesis 4:20-21) That means animals should be domesticated, provided fodder, and use the animal in beneficial ways. Milk products, wool, plowing, and transport were useful for humans.
Music: Jubal was credited for music. Writing verses for songs, adding music, and singing were invented by Jubal. That helped humanity in the oral culture to accumulate knowledge, memorize it, and pass it on to the next generation.
Metallurgy: Today it is not possible to perceive a life without metals. Tubal-Cain was the one who invented ways of mining, purifying, and creating tools using metals. That helped in hunting for food and water for transport.
Wine: Noah could be called an accidental inventor. He is credited by the Jewish scholars for inventing the process of fermentation and wine. (Genesis 9:20-21) The Bible states that wine cheers the heart, it is dangerous as a person could become an alcoholic. (Psalms 104:15; Proverbs 31:4; Ephesians 5:17,18) Paul advised Timothy to take wine for his stomach ailments. (I Timothy 5:23-25)
Hot Springs: In the detailed lineage of Esau, the name of Anah is mentioned. (Genesis 36:24; 26) His name means ‘uncertain,’ so was sent to graze donkeys in the desert. Probably, he might have grumbled about this work in the sweltering desert, searching for patches of grass, and wanderings away from the family. Yet, he was diligent. Anah received an unforeseen blessing, he discovered a hot springs oasis. Later in history the Greeks and Romans would flock to relax in spas fed by the hot springs discovered by Anah. Tough work in a Difficult environment and diligence were rewarded even in the desert.
Do I wonder at God’s creation and discover new things?
