Ancient Scroll and Modern Scroll

God commanded Moses to write the Book of Law on scrolls. (Exodus 24:3-8) The Lord Jesus was given a scroll of Isaiah to read in the synagogue of Nazareth. (Luke 4:17-21) The Ethiopian eunuch read a scroll of Isaiah which he probably bought in Jerusalem during his pilgrimage. (Acts 8:32-33) Philip was able to explain it further and the truth seeker became a disciple of the Lord. In the ancient days, the writings were on the skins of animals, until papayas were invented. The scrolls were expensive as they had to be processed so that the skins could be used for writing. Skillful writers only could write on it. Mostly the kings, royal people, and rich people could own such scrolls.

Fear of God:
Those sacred scrolls intended to help understand God, His Law, His requirements, and the duties of humans. The Scripture teaches the Fear of God that produces Knowledge and Wisdom, and hatred of sin, evil, and wickedness.

Modern scroll:
In today’s age of screens, scrolling means moving text up and down or left and right on a computer screen iPad, or a smartphone. As the screens are in abundance, and available at an affordable price, people are getting glued to the screens.
Fun:
Many people scroll for fun. It is more to kill time than to use time profitably. Instead of sitting idle, people can meddle with phones and show themselves as busy.

Fascinating gossip:
Some are fascinated with gossip. There are a lot of people who enjoy choice morsels of gossip. (Proverbs 18:8) It is neither food for thought nor spiritual edification, but unwarranted and unwanted mischievous and malicious information about others.

Frivolous:
The Information that is generated and communicated is frivolous rather than for growing in knowledge or wisdom.
Futility:
When there is no purpose and reason for scrolling the screen, it is an unproductive and futile activity. The Digital world is handy and friendly but should be a slave and a servant. If digital media dominates, dictates, and directs human life, it is utter foolishness.

Am I reading, learning, meditating, or scrolling aimlessly?
