One person claimed himself blessed that God is near to him always, but never attends a church or reads his bible. He says that God speaks to him directly and there is no need for reading the bible. Sadly, he deceives himself. “If one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.” (Proverbs 28:9) Scripture is the foundation for prayers.
Bible: God has revealed Himself through His Word. To know God, His attributes, His works, His will, and plans, a person should read the bible. God expects His people to read, understand, and meditate on the Word of God with an open mind, joyful spirit, and obedient heart. If a person ignores the Word of God, then he or she ignores God. Some people ignore His Word, as they are not willing to commit to His Will or obey His demands. Certainly, such people’s prayers would be for temporal or mundane things, as it is done without knowing the heart and desires of God.
Conversation: A dynamic relationship is possible only when there is conversation. To have an intimate relationship with the Lord, a disciple should listen to His Word and speak to Him in praises and prayers. Those who only pray and do not read or hear the Bible, are just speaking. It is just a monologue and not dialogue. Even a mad person could be doing a monologue that has no meaning and no one responds. God is not obliged to answer all prayers, especially those who willfully ignore His Word.
Abomination: The word means something offensive to God and His character and is therefore hated or loathed by Him as wicked and vile. Even prayers could be an abomination for God if the person rebelliously neglects the Word of God. God was not delighted in the vain offerings the children of Israel brought, despised their religious feasts, and rejected burnt offerings and sacrifices that did not please him. (Isaiah 1:11-15; Amos 5:21; Jeremiah 6:20)
Do I spend time meditating on the Word that my prayers are answered?
