Geraldine Harris and Kristen Maddox wrote a parable. Satan called his demons and discussed how to make a Christian unproductive and ineffective. The brainstorming session had several ideas. One of them said: Make Christians busy with nonessential things. Make them spend, spend, and spend, then borrow, borrow, and borrow. Make them work 12 hours a day to maintain their lifestyle. Make them immersed in social media, TV, and others. Thus they will not have time for family, prayer, and reading the bible.
Busy and Upset: Martha and Mary delighted in demonstrating great hospitality to the Lord and His disciples. Mary sat at the feet of the Lord, listening to His teachings. Martha was busy and upset about many things. Indeed, the Lord rebuked her for not making a noble choice of hearing the voice of God. (Luke 10:42) Many today are so busy that they do not have quiet time with the Lord.
Busy here and there: In a parable, the prophet shares with King Ahab the dereliction of duty of killing Ben-Hadad, who God judged. As the custodian was busy here and there, the prisoner escaped. (I Kings 20:40) The verdict was the life of the custodian Ahab, for allowing the prisoner Ben-Hadad, destined for death escape.
Worthless pursuits: Some people are busy with worthless or frivolous or trivia pursuits. (Proverbs 12:11) Many people are busy with temporal, which are neither beneficial in this life nor the life after death. These busy things do not edify spiritually, instead, time is lost. It could be flimsy arguments, gossip, excessive games, watching useless reels, or aimless scrolling of mobile phones.
The temptation: Some prefer to be known as busy instead of lazy. Hence, they like to show themselves as busy, intelligent, accomplishing important things, and engaged in noble pursuits. Affixing smileys, pressing like buttons, giving comments, and providing status that shows them as busy, but they are busybodies. (II Thessalonians 3:11-12)
Experiencing Rest: True spirituality is resting in God’s promise, doing God’s Will, and experiencing his peace.
Do I rest in the Lord to be busy for Him?
