There are many wrong perceptions about Christmas. The truth is God became a man in Jesus and paved the way for the redemption of humanity.
Myth: There are many myths and legends. Mostly, they are religious, and some are political. They are not true, but are believed as real by some people. There is no evidence about the reality of the myth. God has given the gift of imagination to humans so that they can create numerous myths.
Metaphor: Christmas celebration for many is just a tradition. The decorations or rituals connected to Christmas are metaphors. The Christmas tree is a metaphor for hope. Christmas carols are a metaphor for joy. Christmas candles indicate light in the darkness. Gifts are for sharing and caring for the poor. Feast is abundance and hospitality. For some, Christmas is a time of fresh air after a year-long business.
Mystery: A few believe that Christmas is a mystery. They think there is no certainty or evidence for the first Christmas. But they do not want to reject that as a myth, hence consider it as a mystery beyond comprehension.
Misery: For some people, especially Christians from poor families, it seems like misery. There are expectations from family, other Christians, and society, and unable to fulfil all of them. Unable to purchase a new dress, cake, or other decorations for the home. Some are over-righteous and ask: there is so much misery around us and worldwide, should we celebrate Christmas?
Miracle: Christmas is a miracle. Angel Gabriel gave God’s message to the Virgin Mary. She was chosen to be the human vessel for the incarnation of the Son of God. The miraculous conception, his birth that happened in Bethlehem as foretold by the Prophet Micah, is indeed a miracle. The Shepherds were informed by the angels. His birth came to be known to the Wisemen in the East, and they came to worship the New Born King. He is Emmanuel God with us. He is called the Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, and Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
Have I experienced the miracle of Christmas by receiving Him?
