People like to make New Year’s resolutions. David also made resolutions that can be termed daily resolutions for his whole life. (Psalm 101:1-8)
I will sing: Thanksgiving, praising, and worshipping the Lord is a great privilege. Paul exhorts believers to sing in the spirit and understanding. (I Corinthians 14:14-15) It is essential to understand the attributes of God to worship Him. David sings of his steadfast love, righteousness, and justice
I will ponder: David wanted to reflect, think, meditate, and contemplate the way that is blameless or holy. “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” (Philippians 4:8)
I will walk: David resolved to lead his life and the nation with an integrity of heart. (Psalms 78:72)
I will not: David resolved not to do two things. First, set worthless things before my eyes. Trivia that consumes time and energy. Such activities do not serve any useful purpose. Second, not to know evil things. The human mind is inquisitive to know what is evil, wicked, and forbidden.
I hate: As a devout follower of the Lord, David hated the work of those who fell away, shipwrecked their faith, and went astray. He does not say that he hates people, but their deeds that are harmful and contagiously evil.
I will destroy: As the king of a great Nation, David would destroy or exile all secret slanderers, evildoers, and wicked people.
I will not endure: David also could not be comfortable with a proud and arrogant heart. Because they tend to be against pious, devoted, godly, and righteous people. David loved to be with the humble people of God.
I will look: The national policy of King David is to favour those who are faithful and blameless. David needed discernment and wisdom to know the faithful and blameless people, so that they could be affirmed and rewarded.
Could I join David in doing similar resolutions for my life?
