Connor Stephanoff, a pizza delivery driver in Indiana, walked half a mile through a snowstorm to complete a delivery, receiving only a $2 tip. Police Officer Richard Craig, said: “I witnessed firsthand the work ethic, dedication, and determination of this young man.” Upset by the meager trip from a rich neighbourhood, the police officer set up a GoFundMe that raised over $16,000 for him. (Times of India 18 January 2025) “Do you see a man skilful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.” (Proverbs 22:29)
Diligence: Due to inclement weather, the company gave an option for the delivery boys to stay at home. But this young man was diligent in his work. He chose not to take that advantage and instead came to work. The police officer commended this young man’s work ethic. The five-talented man and the two-talented man were diligent to earn five and two more talents respectively. (Matthew 25:14-30)
Determination: Hindrances, obstructions, and risks are encountered when an important task is done. Leaders who accomplish are those who confront such problems, find solutions, and move forward.
Generosity: A person who lived in a rich area, was not generous to the young man. Tips are generally given for such services and vary from 5 to 20 percent. In this context, a generous gift would have encouraged and affirmed him. Normally, such delivery boys and girls survive more on tips rather than the salary given by the company.
Proactive police: The police officer who observed this was not able to be a silent spectator. He wanted to appreciate, acknowledge publicly, and reward the diligent man. Social media was used to get the message around. The lack of generosity of one person was compensated by the public, who donated to this diligent man.
Life lessons: As Christians, there are two-fold duties. First, to be diligent in the workplace like the delivery boy and police officer. Second, to be a diligent witness to share the gospel. Third, to be engaged in global missions.
