One cleaning staff member was awarded for her exemplary work. Many travellers have recommended her name for the award. The manager said that she comes to work on time, is enthusiastic throughout the work hours, completes allotted work well, and does more work on her own initiative, wherever it is necessary or overlooked by other team members. Disciples should do whatever they do unto the Lord. (Colossians 3:23-24) The woman who worked at the airport gave five ways this could be done.
Punctual: God is always on time. He never delays. For example, when a gathering of believers is scheduled, the Lord is present even if all those who are invited are not present. Time is God’s gift, and all should be stewards of time.
Diligence: Those who are diligent will be honoured and promoted. Those who are diligent will not stand before mean people, but before the kings. (Proverbs 22:29) Solomon saw diligence and industriousness in young Jeroboam and promoted him over the house of Joseph. (I Kings 11:28) He later became king of the Northern Kingdom, but was forsaken by the Lord, as Jeroboam had forsaken the Lord.
Excellence: Some people try to do the minimum expected by their bosses. Others do more than the expectations of their supervisors. It means to focus, use all knowledge, abilities, skills, and resources to get the best results. The Lord Jesus Christ gave the principle of walking the second mile, doing what is not expected.
Joyful attitude: For some, work is like eating a bitter fruit. Hence, while doing the work, they keep an irritable face and a grumbling mood. Even if they do their best work, their attitude spoils their hard work and good relationships. Disciples are called to rejoice in the Lord always. (Philippians 4:4) That includes hard times of hard work.
Initiative: One of the good qualities in leadership is to take the initiative. Instead of waiting for someone to give an order or direction, emerging leaders take initiative, seize opportunities, and enter open doors.
Am I a diligent disciple demonstrating discipline and dedication in all things I do?
