People with an enlarged heart (cardiomegaly) die, according to modern medicine. However, the Psalmist prays that God may enlarge His heart with His commandments and truth. (Psalm 119:32) In the Bible, the heart also means mind, and sometimes refers to emotion, as well as will to make choices and take decisions.
Bigger and broader: Generally, most people are narrow-minded, close-fisted, and mean-hearted, as they are all sinners. Nevertheless, God’s word transforms a person. God’s Word broadens the understanding of God, of the world, life’s purpose, eternity, and the meaning of life.
Stronger: A Healthy heart is a strong heart. The light of the eyes cheers the heart. (Proverbs 15:30) The Word of God enlightens a person; hence, they could rejoice in the Lord always, a good way to have a strong heart. (Philippians 4:4) It is not just physical strength, but also emotional, mental, and spiritual strength.
Better: The spiritually enlarged heart is better than a normal heart. That heart is a new heart with the Lord’s Law written on it; hence, a better heart with the better covenant. (Jeremiah 31:33)
Steadfast: David sings: “My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast! I will sing and make melodies!” (Psalms 57:7) The person who loves the Lord will have a steadfast heart, because God’s love is steadfast love. The Holy Spirit is poured into the hearts of believers as love of God. (Psalms 57:10; Romans 5:5)
Confidence: David writes that he will not be afraid, even if an army besieges him. (Psalm 27:3) A person who fears God, obeys Him, needs not be afraid of anything, including armies.
Wise heart: An Enlarged heart means a wise heart. A person who could discern what is right and wrong, righteous and unrighteous, truth and falsehood, and good and evil. (Proverbs 16:21) Fools without such discernment will fall and fail. Those who are wise will also be glad. (Proverbs 23:15)
Pure heart: An Enlarged heart also means a pure heart, and they are blessed as they see God. (Matthew 5:8)
