There is a quotation that is used many times: Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words if necessary. Sadly, this is a misnomer. Yet, it is quoted again and again by many Christians. When persecution increases there is a tendency to quote this quite often. Nevertheless, Paul writes: “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:14-17)
Sending: The messengers of the good news ought to be sent. The Local churches have the responsibility to train all believers to be evangelists. Some of them would be working in the vicinity of the Church while others would be sent to far-off places.
Preaching: Those who are sent, are sent with a purpose. That is to preach, proclaim, and propagate the good news. They are not sent to be silent and do some good deeds alone. As led by the Spirit of God, they should preach and teach the gospel.
Hearing: Only when someone preaches, people can hear. If they do only deeds, how many people would have the capacity to think and ask: Why are they doing good works? Perhaps a majority may not be able to understand or interpret their actions. Meanwhile, the enemies of the gospel would propagate ill will among the people. Paul asserts that faith comes by hearing the gospel.
Believing: When they listen, the Lord would open the hearts of the listeners to be receptive to the gospel. Such hearers may have the opportunity to believe and receive the Lord as their savior and Lord.
Do I preach the gospel to inspire faith among people?
