Fighting against the ageing process

Bryan Johnson, the tech tycoon, became the poster child of the modern immortality movement. With a staggering $2 million annual budget dedicated to turning back his biological clock, he tried several high-tech health hacks, like transfusing his son’s youthful blood or undergoing a full plasma exchange. Johnson has spared no expense — or headline — in his journey to “live forever.” The 46-year-old confessed: In his zeal for slow-ageing, he may have accelerated it. (The Economic Times, 8 April 2025) “And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?” (Matthew 6:27) Being anxious, cautious, and taking any special food can never add a minute to a person’s life.
Lord of Life: God created Adam and breathed into him life, and he became a living being. (Genesis 2:7) God is the only source of human life. He is the maker and creator of humans. (Psalm 100:3)
Limited life: Immortality is the quest of all humans. Most do not want to die, but live and enjoy the pleasures of this life. Nevertheless, God has determined the length of life of a person on this earth. God has decreed the number of months and cannot exceed that. (Job 14:5) The Giver of life provides it for a period and purpose. Instead of knowing the purpose, people waste their time trying to prolong their lives on this earth.
Prolonged life: Moses wanted God to teach him to number his days. It is not arithmetic, but to optimally use his days to lead a purposeful life. He states that by taking good measures or precautions, a person could live seventy or eighty years. It is possible to live for one hundred and twenty years, too. That also would be only labor and sorrow. (Psalms 90:10; Genesis 6:3)
Purposeful life: God has a plan and purpose for each person who is born in this world. (Jeremiah 29:11) Those who discover and discern God’s will could enjoy a peaceful, prosperous, and productive life, within God’s set time frame.
Have I discerned God’s purpose in my life?
