Many days are observed annually. It could be Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Teacher’s Day…etc. One such day is Galentine’s Day. It was a rebel celebration. The girls who were not yet married, those who did not have boyfriends, began to celebrate among themselves. It is marked as 13th February each year, just one day before Valentine’s Day. It celebrates Women’s friendship, mutual support, empowerment, and endeavor to uplift one another. Friendship, Fellowship, loving, serving, and encouraging one another are all good things. The Bible also teaches about such wonderful fellowship between women. They formed a formidable team and accomplished great things for the Lord.
Naomi and Ruth: Naomi and Ruth are a classic example of friendship, fellowship, and mutual commitment to one another. Their friendship was intact despite the tragedy of Ruth losing her husband Mahlon, the son of Naomi. (Ruth 1:2-5) They were from two different races: Israelites and Moabites. Their relationship was across generations. Perhaps, an age difference of twenty years. They were the ancestors of the Messiah.
Mary and Elizabeth: When the Virgin Mary received a message from Archangel Gabriel that she would become the mother of Messiah. She was stunned and shocked but submitted to God’s will. She needed spiritual strength, prayers, and encouragement. Elizabeth was her choice, she was spiritually mature, a relative, and was old like her grandmother. She traveled to her home and had a great time of fellowship. (Luke 1:39-45) Great mothers who gave John the Baptist, the greatest of all prophets, and the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Mary and Martha: Probably, they had a sibling competition for serving the Lord Jesus Christ. They both loved the Lord, one served by sitting at his feet and listening to His Words, while the other was busy preparing food and other logistics required for the Lord. (Luke 10:38-42)
Disciples of the Lord: Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Suzanna, were disciples who enjoyed fellowship with the Lord and followed Him. They also provided for his needs with their resources. (Luke 8:1-3)
Do I have purposeful fellowships with fellow disciples?
