Garment of cursing

Some people love to curse and demean others. They also curse days, systems, structures, governments, institutions, nature, and everything. The Psalmist describes such people as if clothed with a piece of cloth, the ‘Garment of cursing.’ (Psalm 109:18) The metaphor means such a person experiences a curse like water entering his body, and a curse like oil entering his bones. In other words, it becomes a part of his being.
Pride: Those who wear the Garment of cursing are those who consider themselves powerful, full of authority, and all others are below their status. The Pride of life refuses to recognise and regard others. Even those who are in authority are mocked.
Negative mindset: People with a negative and pessimistic mindset curse others. The attitude towards others is neither generous nor normal. It is an extraordinary disdain for others. Such a mindset even loses sensitivity towards good. Hence, fails to recognise any good, but seeks negativity and evil in all.
Negative behaviour: Those who wear the garment of cursing indulge in unruly behaviour and snobbery. Their words are always negative, demeaning, vulgar, lies, and swear words. Mocking others by calling them names is their normal behaviour.
Pervasive influence: A garment is always worn, so the negative attitude and wicked words become part of such people’s being. In other words, it becomes their second nature, and their behaviour is habitual.
Garment of Praise: In contrast, the disciples of the Lord wear a Garment of Praise as foretold by Prophet Isaiah. (Isaiah 61:3) Believers will have a crown of beauty for ashes, oil of joy instead of mourning and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They could rejoice in the Lord always. (Philippians 4:4) Wearing the Garment of praise, the believers: 1) Sing and make music in the heart for the Lord (Ephesians 5:19; Psalms 95:2); 2) face challenges joyfully with faith in God’s provision. (Philippians 4:6). 3) They enjoy worshipping with other believers. (Colossians 3:16); and 4) They are witnesses to God’s hand of blessing upon them, and hence thank him always. (Psalm 69:30; 100:4; I Thessalonians 5:16-17)
