He worked as a technical professional for seventeen years in a company. So dedicated that he did not take leave or spend time with his family. However, he was relieved from his job. (Financial Express, 3 November 2025) The office was his temple, the computer was his god, work was worship. His loyalty, commitment, investment, and dreams came to an end abruptly.
Many deities: The god of this world have many manifesting deities. (II Corinthians 4:4) All these deities have one focus to direct worship of a person towards them and ultimately towards Satan. Whatever takes the focus from God, saps all resources, including time, energy, skills, knowledge, and expertise, is an idol.
Mammon: The Lord warned his disciples that it is not possible to serve god and mammon. (Matthew 6:24) The word mammon is an Aramaic word that means: money and wealth. Some people are obsessed with wealth, possessed by materialism, and are in constant pursuit of money. One politician said: Money is not god, but no less than god.
Work or profession: Like the man mentioned in the beginning, numerous people make their work, business, or profession their god. They relegate their other priorities, ignore family relationships, distance themselves from social circles, and live in their own caves or bubbles. When the cave collapses or a bubble bursts, they are in for a rude shock. Mentally and emotionally, they face turmoil and are even pushed to the verge of committing suicide.
Family members: For some men, their mother is god, and for women, their father is god. They neglect spouses and wreck the family. Many make their spouse a god and have broken relationships with other family members. Children could become gods, that spouse and others could be ignored.
Society: Being extremely other-centred, with social consciousness, they work for the welfare of society. They sacrifice everything to uplift the people, but neglect their personal lives. By their sacrifice, even if they gain the whole world and lose their soul, they profit nothing. (Matthew 16:26)
Do I love my God, do His will, and have the kingdom of God as my priority?
