Great Again!

Slogans desire to make their own nation, country’s culture, or religion great again. Some are political rallying points, and mostly against some group of people. The blame for the loss of greatness is upon the migrants, minority religious people, poor or lower castes, or foreign invaders. The Fallen humanity has the desire for greatness.
Make a name: After the great flood of Noah’s time, the descendants of Noah grew. They migrated to the Land of Shinar. With one language, they could be united and also achieve great technical success. Now, they wanted to build a city with a tower that reached the heavens. A kind of false spirituality and desire not to be scattered to the other parts of the earth and protected from a future flood. With this rebellious intention, they desired to create a name for themselves. (Genesis 11:4) God punished them by confusing their language and scattering them throughout the earth.
God’s Gift: The citizens of Babel desired a great name, but could not get it as it was a rebellion against God. Their human efforts failed. However, God called Abraham, promised him, and made a covenant with him: I will make your name great and make you a great nation. (Genesis 12: 2)
God’s expectation: God expected Abraham to command his children and descendants to keep the way of the Lord, and do justice and righteousness. (Genesis 18:19) Thus, his descendants would become a great nation. The Nation of Israel did not live as desired by God. Yet, the disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, as spiritual descendants of Abraham, ought to do good works that would provoke non-followers of Christ to give glory to God. (Matthew 5:16)
Backward march?: To make a nation great again means to go back to the good old days. Interestingly, such a time does not exist, it is only a myth. If at all, they like to go back to history, the great time was only in the Garden of Eden before human fall. (Genesis 3)
Do I realize greatness comes by knowing the Lord, His Law, and obedience by faith?
