Heart and Eyes

One of the challenges for Christian life is to have Integrity of heart, with pure eyes. David resolved not to do two things. First, set worthless things before my eyes. Trivia that consumes time and energy. Such activities do not serve any useful purpose. Second, not to know evil things. The human mind is inquisitive to know what is evil, wicked, and forbidden. (Psalm 101:3,4)
Covenant with eyes: Job testified about his self-control. He had made a covenant with his eyes so that he would not look at a virgin with evil intention. (Job 31:1) Though living in the Old Testament times, he had values taught by the Lord Jesus Christ. (Matthew 5:28)
Haughty eyes: Pride and arrogance are abominations to the Lord. One who has haughty eyes, looks at self-importance, prestige, and respect from others that may not exist, is trivial. (Proverbs 21:4)
Screen-stuck eyes: Some people’s eyes are stuck on the screen of smartphones, endlessly scrolling through useless, purposeless, and meaningless content. The eyes are so fixed that they do not realize that even if a bomb falls nearby.
Exploring evil: Many youngsters are seduced to evil by their peers. The friendship on social media platforms could also mislead anyone not cautious into a sinful adventure. There are many sad stories of suicide by youngsters who played games to make quick money, drowned in debt, and killed themselves. A young man lacking sense follows a wayward woman, just like an ox led to slaughter. He does not realize it is death. (Proverbs 7:6-23)
Evolution of evil: First, a person starts his downward path by listening to the counsel of the wicked. In modern times, it could be said: Do not walk in the counsel of Google or YouTube. Second, stand in the path of sinners. That means to take a stand, form an opinion, or consent to the trends set by wicked people. Third, becomes comfortable and sits with the scorners and mockers who do not believe in God, His Holiness, righteousness, and truth. (Psalms 1:1-3)
Have I resolved, like David, to flee from trivia, sin, and evil?
