One billionaire son got married. When a journalist interviewed him, he said he was an animal lover. Hence, his life ambition was to create a world-class hospital for animals around the world. According to the UN (United Nations) and WHO (World Health Organization), fifty percent of the world’s population does not have access to modern medicine. Lopsided priorities of the super-rich. Lord Jesus Christ in His earthly ministry healed the sick, opened the eyes of the blind, cleansed the lepers, the deaf were healed to hear, the lame walked, and raised the dead. (Matthew 11:4-6) While ancient medical systems in the East of the world considered medical knowledge as sacred and did not teach others, missionaries went to the nook and corner of the world opening hospitals, nurses training institutions, and medical colleges. But for the services of the dedicated missionaries, perhaps only a quarter of the world could have access to modern medicine.
Accessible: There are many remote places in the world today, where rural people cannot access any kind of medical care. To get such medical care, they must walk several kilometers, through jungle, wilderness, deserts, and cross rivers.
Available: Even if these people can reach to an institution, probably run by the national government, it may not be functional. There may not be all services available. Sometimes gynecologists are not there for women to have institutional delivery. Only empty buildings with non-medical staff are available in most of the rural areas in third-world countries.
Affordable: Even if people have access to medical institutions, and services are available, many cannot afford the cost. In some places a few basic medicines are given free, and so are the vaccinations because of WHO could mobilize resources. Nevertheless, medicines become unaffordable for many diseases.
Amassed wealth: Sadly, the billionaire who has amassed wealth, could easily make modern medicine accessible, available, and affordable to millions of people. He does not understand that God has created humans in His image. Caring for the sick is serving the Creator Himself. (Matthew 25:36)
Am I grateful that God sent missionaries to make modern medicine accessible?
