A few founders of ministries named it after themselves. Also, a few called the local churches ‘Assembly’, prefixed with their personal name. Such practices are incorrect and are not approved by the Bible. God does not share His glory with another. (Isaiah 42:8) The Lord Jesus Christ asserted: I will build my church. (Matthew 16:18)
I: The Lord Jesus Christ has purchased the Church with his blood shed on the cross at Calvary. (Acts 20:28) Neither a human nor an angel could be an atonement for human sin. The Head of the church is the Lord Jesus Christ; hence, she belongs to Him alone. (Ephesians 5:33)
Will: This indicates both Promise and Purpose. It is God’s determined resolve to build the church. It is a well-thought-out plan to build His church. It will surely be fulfilled. God’s purpose is to build the Church to serve the world as the Body of Christ.
Build: The Work of God is to establish or build the church. The cornerstone is Christ Himself, and the spiritual building is built with living stones, as each believer is a living stone. (I Peter 2:4-5) He also simultaneously builds mansions for his disciples. When it is complete, He will come to take His people to the eternal dwelling. (John 14: 1-2)
My: The Nation of Israel was called the ‘treasured possession.’ (Exodus 19:5) However, the Nation failed; they crucified the Messiah. The Church is the treasured possession of the New Covenant for the Lord. That possession cannot be stolen or robbed.
Church: The Lord Jesus Christ is the bridegroom, and the Church is the bride. Paul writes that the bride should be presented in splendor, without spot, blemish, without wrinkle, or any such thing. (Ephesians 5:27) The Church could only bear the name of Christ, engaged to Christ. The Apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers are given as a gift to the church. (Ephesians 4:11-13) They are, at best, Friends of the Bridegroom, like John the Baptist, and can never be the bridegroom. (John 3:29)
Do I understand the significance of the Church?
