Imperfect marriages and perfect endings

Recent research about the common reasons for divorces was published in newspapers. In India, there is a concern that the number of divorces has increased drastically. Marriage in the world is a covenant between two imperfect people. When both are committed to the Lord and one another, there will be a joyful ending. (Ephesians 5:31-32; Genesis 2:22-25) If not, there could be separation and divorce. Some reasons for divorce were listed in the news report.
Money matters: Forty percent of divorces happen, because of the dispute in handling money. Who is the authority? How it should be spent? What are the priorities? Godly couples understand that all blessings come from God and are stewards of God-given blessings. Hence, they could pray and know the will of God, and manage finances wisely.
Respect matters: When spouses do not respect one another, or extended family members, a seed is sown for divorce. Respecting the spouse’s opinions, preferences, and choices is also important. Indeed, spouses should outdo one another in showing honor, the outcome of love. (Romans 12:10)
Do not compare: Young couples tend to compare other couples and consider their family life not as good as those couples. It could be celebrities, other family members, or even friends. For that, they blame one another and end up in court seeking divorce.
Delay in forgiving: When there is a difference of opinion or argument, it is essential to forgive and forget. If it is allowed to brood in mind, it becomes bitterness and even hate, which leads to irreconcilable relationships. Thus, ends in divorce. The Bible teaches that anger should disappear when the sun goes down. (Ephesians 4:26-27) It means to forgive and forget on the very same day.
Interference by others: When there is a dispute or argument, allowing other persons including parents, siblings, or friends to interfere is dangerous.
Needs not met: Husband and wife should be committed to meeting the spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, and sexual needs of one another. Negligence by one partner could be a trap laid by Satan.
