People wish that criminals were punished immediately, instantly, and without delay. For them, the judicial process is cumbersome, and criminals could manipulate the witnesses and escape. Yes, there are occasions when criminals escape punishment, but they cannot escape God’s judgment. Sinners and criminals think that they can escape God’s judgment, also, by their foolish presumptions.
Not guilty? Some people think they are not guilty because God did not punish them instantly. Delay in punishment is for an opportunity to repent, learn to appreciate God’s patience, and seek forgiveness.
Grey area: There could be loopholes in human laws. A specific action may not be literally mentioned in the Law of Moses. Foolishly, some people assume that since there is no specific rule, it is not a sin.
Deserve mercy: All sinners and criminals assume that they deserve mercy. All humans who do not declare themselves as sinners make God a liar. (I John 1:10). Sadly, they wish to assert that even though they are sinners, they deserve mercy, hence demand mercy.
Powerless God? Some stupid sinners and criminals assume that God is powerless to execute judgment or punish them. Since they did not experience divine wrath, they are self-deceived into the assumption that God has no authority or power to punish. Hence, they continue to sin more and more, hardening their hearts.
God is not really just? Some people are unaware of God’s attributes. For them, God is like a human who could be bribed or appeased. Hence, there is no fear of God. The Bible clearly asserts that God does not show favouritism to anyone. All will be judged impartially.
God, the Just judge: God is a righteous and just judge. God is Holy, hence he is angry with the wicked. He does not judge instantly; he prepares the instruments of justice, which consist of swords, arrows, bows, and fiery shafts. It shows the severity of God’s judgment. (Psalm 7:11-13) God is not mocked; what a person sows, so shall s/he reap. (Galatians 6:7)
Do I understand God’s Holiness, righteousness, and judgments?
