Many young people overemphasize the bible passage that states the Lord Jesus as a friend of the disciples. (John 15:15) Hence, they call the Lord ‘buddy’ and similar terms. It won’t be long if they treated the Lord as a personal servant, because the Lord called Himself a servant. (Matthew 20:28) It is essential to learn from the colleagues of Jehu. (II Kings 9: 4-13)
Elisha deputes a young prophet: Elisha commanded a young prophet to go among the captains of the army, call Jehu into a chamber away from his colleagues, and anoint him in secret. That would allow Jehu to decide his time to raise the banner of revolt. The young man fulfills his assignment by anointing Jehu. The message was that God had chosen Jehu and anointed him to execute judgment on Ahab and his household for their wickedness and vengeance for killing the people of God, especially His prophets.
Colleagues mock: After the young prophet left, the colleagues were mocking the young man, terming him a madman. Scorning the prophets, the colleagues said, what he says is a lie. In other words, the prophet was termed a madman, a babbler, and a liar, and his words amount to nothing. They were skeptical about God and prophecy.
Sudden change of situation: However, they noticed that Jehu was drenched with the oil of anointing. Their suspicion was confirmed by what Jehu said, the message of the prophet from God. The friends took the words seriously and hailed the reluctant Jehu. They spread the garment, indicating recognition as the king, loyalty to him, and promising him support.
Perception changes: The friends and colleagues saw Jehu with a changed attitude, respect, and even fear. Though they were buddies, now Jehu is upgraded or exalted as the king. Now, they looked at him with respect, reverence, as his elevated status deserves. They evolved from being friends to behaving with maturity, as the new equation of the King-soldier or king-citizen relationship.
Do I stand in awe, humility, and with an attitude of worship to the Son of God?
