Life-saving or life-snatching profession?

A first-year MBBS student from a government medical college in Dungarpur, Rajasthan was forced to do more than 300 push-ups amid scorching heat. This impacted the student’s kidney functioning and he had to undergo dialysis. An FIR has been lodged against seven second-year students. (The Economic Times, 27 June 2024) Medical professionals are considered like angels, who save the sick from the clutches of death. However, the students preparing to become medical professionals almost snatched a person’s life and left him permanently injured.
Brutality: In the last days, people will be brutal, heartless, and ruthless. (II Timothy 3:1-5) Love your neighbor as yourself is not taught in homes or institutions. (Matthew 22:37-38) Instead, envy and hatred rule the minds of the people. This inward darkness is revealed in external abnormal behavior.
Sadistic joy: Some children grow up with mischievous joy when tormenting siblings or schoolmates. If this is not disciplined by parents and teachers, it will continue the whole lifetime. Such youngsters become bullies and when married abusers of wife and children.
Sick mindset: “I was ragged or mugged, so I will rag or mug others.” They were victims of evil, instead of fighting for justice and teaching lessons to their tormentors, their anger is misdirected toward newer, vulnerable victims. In this case, to the new entrants into the medical school. Lacking spiritual strength to forgive, and be gracious to others, they become terrible tormentors.
Negligent institutions: The higher-education institutions do not have the eagerness or capacity to train students in righteousness, truth, love, dignified behavior, showing courtesy, and extending a helping hand. The life and behavior of the students after class hours are not a concern for the institutions. The Professors do not exercise their moral authority and legal authority to discipline and guide the students. Only when an episode happens, do they try to do media management, but not to transform the institution.
Sleeping society: Sadly, ragging is considered a norm in society, and is approved by silence. Later these rogues will gain social and political power that is dangerous to any civilized nation.
