Pray, Plan, and Prepare

Those who fail to prepare, prepare to fail. Many pray but do not plan or prepare. For example, a student neither plans to study, nor prepares for exams, but expects God to answer prayers and get him excellent marks. All three are essential for a good disciple. Hezekiah did all three wisely. (II Chronicles 32:2-8) The Foolish Virgins did neither plant nor prepare properly. Hence, they missed the memorable event. (Matthew 25:1-13)
Strategic plan: Hezekiah had a well-designed plan to thwart the attack of Sennacherib. It was strengthening the physical infrastructure, boosting the morale of the soldiers, and total dependence on God.
Stop water: Hezekiah had excellent intelligence that warned him about the invasion of Sennacherib. Immediately, he stopped the water from the springs that were accessible on the outskirts of Jerusalem. When the Assyrian army lays siege, they should not have water, but those inside the city should have sufficient water. Jerusalem was dependent on two springs: Gihon in the Kidron Valley and En-Rogel two miles South.
Strengthen: Because of the serious threat, Hezekiah built up the wall. Archaeologists have discovered a part of the wall on the western hill of Jerusalem. It is seven meters thick and is the thickest wall known in that region. It was built to withstand the attack of the battering rams of Assyrians.
Strong soldiers: The defense of Israel did not depend on the walls, towers, shields, water supplies, or swords, but on the strength, courage, motivation, and perseverance of the soldiers. So, Hezekiah strengthened them mentally to be tough and fight for victory.
Spiritual resources: Hezekiah reminded the words of Prophet Elisha: We have more power than they have. (II Kings 6:16) He depended on the Promises of God. His faith yielded the victory when the angel of the Lord struck 185,000 soldiers in the Assyrian camp. (II Kings 19:35) Hezekiah also sought the prayers and intercession of Prophet Isaiah. (Isaiah 37:2-4) When God is with His people, who can be against them? (Romans 8:31)
Do I pray, plan, and prepare for all aspects of my life?
