In Pune, a daily wage worker wondered how much he had to pay for the delivery of his child through cesarean section. He timidly asked, “Doctor, what child is it?” The doctor said: “An angel, you are blessed with a baby girl.” The doctor continued, “When angels are born, I don’t charge any fee.” The doctor’s mother said to Dr. Ganesh Rakh, “Become a doctor and protect these angel girls for free.” In the past ten years, he has delivered over 2000 angels for free. The doctor has solely challenged the bias against girls in the prevailing culture.
Sin of murder: A baby, unborn or born, is created in the image of God. Those who abort or kill babies for any reason are murderers, as they violate the Commandment, You shall not murder. (Exodus 20:13). Sadly, this sin is considered normal and also celebrated as freedom of choice of a mother or parents.
Liability: One Supreme Court judge said that her daughter is marked in the column of liability. Even rich and highly educated people consider a girl child as a loss, or unwelcome and even undesirable.
Womb as tomb: Though illegal, there are a few scrupulous labs, where the sex of the fetus is informed to the parents. If the fetus is female, the parents go for an abortion. Sadly, with consent or manufactured consent, a mother makes her life-giving womb become the tomb of a child.
Infanticide: There are instances where a girl child is allowed to die within days of her birth. Such children are choked to death or poisoned or left in garbage bins, public places, or even on railway tracks. Some girls are rescued by a timely alert received by the police. Such children grow up in institutions run by church agencies or the government. The Tamil Nadu government runs a cradle scheme; such unwanted girls could be left in the cradle kept in some places.
Discrimination: Even if the girl child survives, in most families, they are discriminated against and sometimes neglected.
Do I celebrate girl children or discriminate against them?
