There is a report about a professor who has obtained 150 degrees, which include twenty professional degrees and doctorates. He teaches in some colleges and spends most of his income on accumulating more degrees. (India Today, 25 October 2025) The Preacher in Ecclesiastes states that there is no end to making books. Much study is wearisome. He warns that not all knowledge comes from One Shepherd. (Ecclesiastes 12:12) More and more books would be written, and with digital technology, much more would be written.
Addiction to knowledge: Some people are addicted to research. They love to find out what is new. With a critical and inquisitive mind, they ask hard questions and find answers. Accumulation of knowledge is good, like saving wealth, provided it is used for a noble purpose.
Inexhaustible: Knowledge seems to be inexhaustible. Even after 3000 years of writing by the preacher, every day, thousands of books are produced in the world. It will continue until the Lord comes again.
Purpose of learning: Some people like to be an expert in a particular field; hence, they keep learning. Lifelong learning is also important; however, it should have a purpose. Learning without application of knowledge for the benefit of oneself, family, and society is unworthy.
Knowledge puffs up: Paul warns that knowledge puffs up, love builds up. (I Corinthians 8:1) Knowledge could lead to a superiority complex, an inflated ego, arrogance, and even create discord. But love helps a person to be a humble and useful vessel in the hands of God.
Word of God: Paul writes to Timothy that the Scripture equips saints to do good works. (II Timothy 3:15-17) Godly knowledge provides Godly wisdom. With that wisdom, love of God compels a person to proclaim the gospel, truth to the world.
Godly blessing: The Disciples of the Lord have a great advantage. The Bible as a resource has inexhaustible knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. When studied with a humble attitude, the Spirit of God equips, prepares, and nudges to do great things for God that have eternal value.
Do I study, apply, and do great things for the Lord?
