Reasons for loving the Lord

King David expresses his love for the Lord. This passage is considered the highest expression of love in the Old Testament. He gives nine reasons to love the Lord. (Psalms 18:1-3) This psalm is a victory song of David.
Strength: The God of strength empowered David to survive all attacks of enemies and equipped him to defeat his enemies. With strength comes the courage to take risks, fight stronger enemies, and emerge victorious.
Rock: First, the rock means help. Second, rock provides shade from the sun and heat in the desert. (Isaiah 32:2) Third, rock provides shelter in its cracks and crevasses. (Exodus 33:22; Proverbs 30:26) Four, it gives a firm and broad place to stand and fight, unlike sinking sand or miry clay. (Psalm 40:2)
Fortress: God’s name is a strong tower, and the righteous run into it and are safe. (Proverbs 18:10) Fortresses are citadels, well-protected and impenetrable by enemies. Siege could continue for months, but fortresses could not be defeated.
Deliverer: God delivers by various means. It could be creating a way of escape or supernaturally punishing the enemies. God can make a way through the Red Sea and punish the Egyptians by drowning them, who pursued Israel with 600 chariots.
God: David praised God as the only object of his worship and adoration. That God is the creator, sovereign ruler, who puts strength in the soul of David.
Strength (Fountain source): The Hebrew word used here means a fountain, source, or origin. For David, God was the only source of strength, stamina, courage, guidance, and wisdom.
Shield: God defends David from the fiery darts of the enemy. God protects his head by renewing his mind, as well as his heart, by giving the joy of salvation.
Horn: This means God is David’s strength, high and raised, and a defence from attacks.
Stronghold: This word means a high tower of refuge. From there, it is possible to see the enemy far off, be protected, and also attack the enemy.
