Righteous deeds of Job

Job is a challenge for all humans with regard to justice and righteousness. His personality profile gleaned from his speeches speaks of integrity, trustworthiness, and holiness. Yet, he had to repent and seek God’s righteousness. (Job 40:4; 42:6) Here are some glimpses of his personality that demonstrate true spirituality, which should be found in all Christians. (Job 29: 7-20)
Witness and reputation: Job was well regarded at the gate of the city, where the public as well as the courts gathered. When Job entered, there was silence and a hush of whispers. Young, old, nobles, and princes blessed Job and had high approval ratings.
Cry of the poor: When the poor cried in their agony, suffering, and desperation because of need, Job rushed to their help. A wealthy Job used his possessions for the welfare and benefit of the poor. (Job 1:1-3) He was neither proud nor trusted with his riches.
Marginalised: Those who were about to perish sought his intervention, so did the fatherless and widows. Job caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy, as the Apostle James defines as true spirituality. (James 1:27)
Righteousness and justice: Job put on righteousness that was his garment, and justice was like a robe and turban.
Practical help: Job was like eyes to the blind, guiding and leading them. Also, feet to the lame, taking them around, and caring for them.
Advocate and judge: Job was the voice of the voiceless and pleaded for those who could not have an advocate for their genuine causes. Job executed justice by breaking the fangs of the unrighteous, and made them drop his prey from their teeth.
Call and mandate: Like Job, every believer is called to be a pious, spiritual, bold witness and become an agent of transformation, consolation, and blessing. All are equipped for good works by His Word. So should be the family of the righteous. Above all, local churches should demonstrate these deeds that bring righteousness and justice in society.
