Scattering shepherd

The Solemn duty of a shepherd of God’s people could be compromised by various factors. Prophet Jeremiah provides some insights into the plight of sheep that are scattered. “For the shepherds are stupid and do not inquire of the Lord; therefore, they have not prospered, and all their flock is scattered. (Jeremiah 10:21)
Stupid: Those who are ignorant, lack common sense, and basic understanding could be termed as stupid. When something, a deed, or an idea irritates or annoys a person, it is called stupid. A sheep that goes astray habitually is termed a stupid animal. Using loud music in a public place is a stupid and insensitive act. God’s servants who are called to shepherd the flock of God should not become stupid. Tragically, stupid shepherds make their sheep also stupid.
Inquire of the Lord: Jeremiah rebukes the leaders of Israel who became stupid, as they disregarded, rejected, and did not seek to understand the requirements of God and the Law of Moses. They neither meditated on the Word of God nor waited in His presence to listen to His voice. Routinely preach messages borrowed from social media.
Not prospered: Hence, these shepherds have not prospered in any aspect of life. They lacked spiritual discernment, skills to lead, words to counsel, courage to protect, wisdom to teach, and understanding to keep the flock together. They failed in their spiritual, emotional, mental, material, and relational aspects of life. The ministry is affected, and these shepherds blame the sheep for their sorry state, instead of repenting and seeking God’s will and direction.
Flock scattered: Sadly, their failures impact the people of God, His chosen flock. Instead of gathering the flock, they scattered. Instead of searching for the flock, they consumed the flock. Sadly, many young people migrate from their homes to faraway places. The pastors have failed to care for them. The poor migrants are exploited, harassed, and become victims of human trafficking. Sadly, the shepherds are in their imaginary world, not seeking to know about the welfare of their people.
