In the Indian parliament, one Member passionately argued about samosas. The triangle-shaped snack is popular throughout the country; its size, shape, ingredients, and prices vary, as do its taste and nutritional facts. The honourable member wanted a law to regulate the standard procedure for making, ingredients, nutrition, and pricing in all parts of the country. (News18, 31 July 2025) He belongs to a region that is considered backwards because of poverty, lack of education, employment, and health care. However, his priority that needs the attention of the government is about edible samosas.
What is important?
To understand what is important in life, people and a country need some kind of education, knowing the situation of people, and what people are struggling with in their day-to-day lives. Instead, such rootless wonders refuse to learn about their people, their needs, and their dreams. Living in a dream world, insulated from people by security officers around, and isolated from national issues, their petty minds can think only about samosas.
What do you seek?
During the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ, he fed the hungry. The people who followed him would give them bread without work. The Lord rebuked them to think about eternity, not just bread that perishes, but the bread of life. (John 6:27) Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. (Matthew 4:4) For the MP, snacks like samosas are vital, even than the bread, and clueless about the Bread of Life.
Priorities?
Unlike those who choose to serve mammon, a disciple is trained by the Lord, the Word, and the Spirit of God to choose the right priorities. (Matthew 6:33) First, they are called to seek the Kingdom of God. That is God’s reign in the hearts of people that will impact families, communities, societies, culture, workplace, institutions, and nations. Second, their value system is the righteousness of God. Doing always what is right in the eyes of God at all places and in all situations.
As a disciple, do I discern things that are important and a priority?
