On a flight journey, a fellow passenger asked a Christian, “Why are you a Christian? Can you give ten reasons?”
1) Child of God: The world could give fundamental or human rights. Only God could give the spiritual right to become a child of God when we trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. (John 1:12)
2) Salvation: God has forgiven me from the penalty of past sins, given me the power to lead a holy life, and granted me a place in heaven, where sin cannot enter. (Ephesians 4:32)
3) Love: The Christian faith has taught the supremacy of loving God and loving others as oneself. (Mark 12:30-31)
4) Peace: When a person comes to the Lord Jesus Christ, his heavy burdens, like guilt and fear of death, are removed. Hence, a person could experience peace that the world could neither give nor snatch away. (Hebrew 2:15; John 14:27)
5) Community: Christian faith is not an individualistic endeavour in jungles and caves. It is a faith pilgrimage with other imperfect believers, with the goal of achieving perfectness.
6) Purpose of Life: When a person comes to the Lord Jesus Christ, he meets the maker. Only the creator could reveal the purpose for which s/he is created and sent into the world. Yes, it is possible to know the Will and purpose of God, which is acceptable, pleasing, and perfect. (Romans 12:2)
7) Fellowship: The Christian faith provides intimate fellowship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the mediator. (I Timothy 2:5) God speaks through the Bible and hears our prayers. And also, fellowship with all believers irrespective of their caste, culture, class, clan, language, and nationality.
8) Hope: The Christian faith provides hope for the future, eternity. The hope is to live with God forever and ever.
9) Holy life: The Christian faith gives motivation to lead a holy life of integrity, honesty, and righteousness.
10) The Truth: The Bible is the Truth, the Lord Jesus Christ is the Truth, and there is no other way to know the Absolute truth.
Do I have these convictions?
