There are times when we give undue importance in our spiritual journey. The disciples were recruited by the Lord, and were sent teams of two to do ministry. They came back with enthusiastic reports. “The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” (Luke 10:17) Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:20) Yet the Lord spoke of the downfall of Satan. Satan has four different falls.
1) Glory to wickedness: Satan, Lucifer was one of the archangels. He had a lot of privileges, honour, titles and respect. However, he was discontented that he desired the worship and wanted a throne higher than that of God. He was cast out of heaven. (Ezekiel 28:14-16)
2) Restricted access: Though cast out, he had limited access to heaven as well as on the earth. He cannot do whatever he pleases. Satan had to take permission to tempt or afflict Job. (Job 1:12; I Kings 22:21; Zechariah 3:1 and Revelation 12)
3) From earth to bondage: Lord will imprison Satan in the bottomless pit for 1000 years. (Revelation 20) Satan loses access to heaven, he cannot accuse people of God anymore, he will be confined to a bottomless pit.
4) From bottomless pit to the lake of fire: As ultimate judgement, Satan will be thrown into hell, the lake of fire. (Revelation 20)
There are many Christians who are scared of Satan, the defeated foe. There are a few who rejoice that they can cast out demons. However, Lord pointed us towards the importance of being born-again and our names being written in Heaven. When we are His children, we are sealed and protected by Father, and no one can snatch us from the hands of the Good Shepherd Lord Jesus Christ. (John 10:28) When we are in Him, we enjoy overwhelming victory over Satan, as He is victorious. Paul declares that we are more than conquerors. (Romans 8:37)
Do I rejoice as conqueror in Christ Jesus?
