Luke gives clarity as he introduces the Saviour to the world in his gospel. The question that often lingers in the minds of people has been specifically answered.
Son of the Most High: The gospel is about the Messiah, the Saviour and the Lord. His birth was a miracle, impossible for humans, and possible for God. Archangel Gabriel delivered the news that God had chosen Mary as the favoured person to become the mother of the Lord. Virgin Mary will conceive as the Most High overshadows her and be the mother of the Son of the Most High. (Luke 1:32-33)
Christ the Lord: The shepherds were taking care of their sheep. Angels appeared in the sky and gave them the Good News that the saviour is born, who is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:11) The Lord Jesus Christ is the saviour, who has authority to forgive sins and is the Lord of heaven and earth.
Lord’s Salvation: Simeon was a devout, godly prophet. God had promised him that he would see the Lord’s Salvation before he died. When he took Jesus as an infant in his arms, he declared that he had seen the Lord’s Salvation. (Luke 2:30-32) There is only one way of salvation, and that is through the Lord Jesus only.
Redemption of Jerusalem: Prophetess Anna was a woman of worship and prayer. She looked for the redemption of Jerusalem, the salvation of the Jewish people. And she, as a prophetess, recognised that Jesus is the saviour. (Luke 2: 38)
Redeemer of the world: God sent John the Baptist to prepare the Way for the Lord. The Nation of Israel should be ready spiritually to receive the Lord. John the Baptist identified the Messiah not only to the Nation of Israel but to all humanity. All humans will see God’s salvation (Luke 3:4-6). He said: ‘The Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29)
Call to sinners: Christmas is a call to sinners to repent, forsake sin, and receive the Lord in their hearts, minds, and souls.
Have I received the Lord in my heart?
