Pride, arrogance, and haughtiness are always dangerous and destructive. (Proverbs 16:18) Individual pride, family pride, caste pride, class pride, clan pride, race pride, grace pride… an unending list.
Self-credit: Proud people wish to take credit for themselves. Some atheist scientists claim that they can create life, and even humans, by cloning or using DNA. However, they cannot create DNA. God created all things from nothing, and Adam from the dust. Proud bosses take credit for the achievements of their colleagues.
Self-glorification: Proud people dream of a legacy. They like to build their own memorials or erect their own statues to perpetuate their memory. It is not for the benefit of people, but for themselves or their own descendants.
Independence: Pride leads to a life that does not regard God, His Laws, and expectations. Arrogance rejects God’s mercy, grace, wisdom, and guidance. Hence, the end would be disaster and death.
Entitlement: Pride obviously leads to pride of life. (I John 2:16) Being proud of their birth, status, achievements, position, and power, they wish to take all privileges, luxuries, and comforts, and deprive others. They think they are entitled to all the best things and that others do not deserve or qualify for them. Hence, for the entitled elite, depriving the undeserved is reasonable and justifiable.
Self-Righteousness: The human mind has the rational capacity to justify unethical and unrighteous acts. Also, give excuses for not doing what they are supposed to do. Instead of being honest and truthful in self-evaluation, proud people defend themselves by self-justification. The Bible teaches that God is Holy, and He sets the standards. All human measurements and standards are compared to filthy rags or menstrual clothes. (Isaiah 64:6)
Humility: The Lord Jesus Christ called disciples to learn from Him, as he said: I am gentle and lowly in heart. (Matthew 11:29) As He is the model for Christians, they should be gentle, humble, courteous, polite, and steadfast. Paul writes that the mind or paradigm of Christ concerning humility should be in the lives of believers. (Philippians 2:5-8)
Am I always humbling before God and display that to the world?
