Do not trust riches

World-renowned designer Kyrzayda Rodriguez died of cancer when she was 40 years old. She wrote: “There is nothing in this world more real than death. The most expensive branded car in the world stands in my garage. But I get taken in a wheelchair. All kinds of designs and colours in this world, expensive clothes, expensive shoes, expensive products are all in my house. But I’m in the small gown provided by the hospital. My bank account but nothing. My house is like a castle, but I am lying in a small bed in the hospital. I kept travelling to five-star hotels in this world. But I’m being transferred to another lab in the hospital labs. On that day 7 hairstylists will do makeup for me daily. But today I have no hair in my head. I have been dining at many types of high star hotels but today two pills a day and a drop of salt at night. I was flying in a private jet, and now two people helped me get to the hospital.”

1) No profit: She had gained a lot in this world, more fortunate than billions in the world. Yet there was no gain as Lord Jesus said: “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul?” (Mark 8:36)

2) Fool: When she was 40 years old, she was at the pinnacle of the glory of the world, like the rich man who had a bumper harvest. “But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.” (Luke 12:20-21)

3) Store in heaven: The Lord Jesus warned against piling up treasure on earth, instead store in heaven. (Matthew 6:19-21)

4) Deceitful: Riches are deceitful that do not allow Word of God to take root and grow in human hearts. (Matthew 13:22)

Am I focused on Christ or riches?
