A man was against the construction of a church in the neighborhood. Yet, the Christian community went ahead and completed the church and began the worship. Soon, this man’s wife became dumb and could not speak. He again went and shouted at the Christians, as they cursed his family and his wife became dumb. He was afraid, enraged, displeased, but was not humble enough to repent. Many people react strangely to God’s work.
Displeased: When Nehemiah came to build the wall of Jerusalem, there were a few who were grieved exceedingly or displeased. (Nehemiah 2:10) Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, were upset that Jewish safety was being ensured.
Angry and enraged: When Sanballat and Tobiah heard that the wall was being built they were angry and enraged. (Nehemiah 4:1) They were angry with Nehemiah, his leadership, his mobilization of people, and his accomplishments.
Fall in self-esteem: The completion of the Wall around Jerusalem made the nations think and understand that it is the work of God. Hence, they were afraid and did not have self-esteem and self-confidence. “And when all our enemies heard of it, all the nations around us were afraid and fell greatly in their esteem, for they perceived that this work had been accomplished with the help of our God. (Nehemiah 6:15-16) Wicked will be driven like chaff by the wind. (Psalm 1:4)
Finger of God: The magicians who use their magical power to imitate the miracles done by Moses, accepted defeat and declared that it was the ‘Finger of God.’ (Exodus 8:19) However, Pharaoh hardened his heart and was not willing to repent. His pride kept him from acknowledging the truth.
Enemies make peace: When a person’s life pleases God, He commands even his enemies to be at peace with him. (Proverbs 16:7) Realizing it is futile to fight against God, they make peace with God’s people.
Vain confidence: People who fight against God’s people have vain confidence. He who is in His People is greater than the one in the world. (I John 4:4)
Do I have God-confidence to overcome the world?
