Mahesh Gurjar Shoots Daughter Tanu dead in front of cops, panchayat, days before her wedding. She had publicly opposed the marriage arranged by her family, expressing her desire to marry a man of her own choice, and from a different caste. (15 January 2025)
Obsession of power: Children are gifts from God. (Psalms 127:3) However, many parents think that they have absolute power over children, in the womb or out of the womb; minor or major. Children belong to God and parents are not gods for their children. When parents try to control all aspects of grown-up children, they behave like gods.
Prestige: Some people are proud of the caste in which they are born. For them, there are always people lower in status according to the caste system. Hence, associating with others is below their prestige and honor in society.
Hatred and contempt: Tragically, relationships between different castes are filled with animosity, hatred, and contempt. The lower the status of the caste, the more contempt is reserved for them. Other caste people are compared with even animals.
Women have no choice: Parents think that their daughter cannot choose, but simply accept their choice. Women are considered less intelligent and sometimes compared with cows. But Rebekah had to give consent to become the wife of Isaac. (Genesis 24:58)
Proud murderer: The man was ruthless in dealing with his daughter. He did not have even the natural love of a father. First, daughters have no rights. Second, caste affiliation is superior to the life of a daughter. Third, Violation of caste rules, and disobedience to the father means death. Fourth, he had no respect for the law of the land, the panchayat, or the police officers present. Five, he possessed a gun which was not lawful for him to possess. Six, as a hypocrite he pretended to love his daughter, and took her aside as if to have a conversation, then killed her. Seven, he would be a proud murderer rather than a father whose daughter was independent-minded.
