The Roman soldiers used to carry water-soaked and water-saturated shields. They were prepared for enemy attacks, who could shoot fire-bearing arrows. If the shield is dry, it will catch fire. A Greek writer describes a special arrow called belos that is long, slender, with a hollow interior filled with flammable fluids, when it hits, by the impact there is an explosion and fire. Paul writes that the shield of faith would quench the enemy’s fiery darts. (Ephesians 6:16) Believers should soak their shield of faith in the Word of God to protect themselves.
Doubt: This is the first fiery dart that Satan used. He seduced Adam and Eve to doubt God, His Goodness, His Words, and His commandments.
Fear: When people think about some danger or future or death, they are afraid. Another fear is that of punishment and judgment of God.
Worry: Those who do not have the Kingdom of God as their priority, will tend to worry about the basic needs and future.
Guilt: Some people are unable to accept the gift of forgiveness from the Lord. Though God had forgiven them, they could not forgive themselves.
Discouragement: Some are discouraged when facing trials or suffering. They are discouraged and wish to give up.
Temptation: Satan brings temptation into the lives of believers as long as they are alive. It could be lust of eyes, lust of flesh, and pride of life.
Tribulation: In many countries, believers are faced with persecution from authorities, religious leaders, and even from friends and relatives. Some are even violent and ruthless.
False teachings: Sadly, many believers are distracted and misdirected by false teachings. False teachers are like wolves in sheep’s clothing.
Boredom: A few feels bored following the Lord. They always want miracles, prophecies, this event or that event, and when nothing dramatic happens they get bored.
Loneliness: The feeling of being alone can lead to suicidal tendencies. Elijah felt he was alone, and wanted to die. But God had his humour, he never died and was caught up to heaven.
Do I have a mind soaked with the Word of God?
