Marshall McLuhan, the Canadian media theorist said: “The Medium is the message.” He used the term ‘message’ to signify the content and character. However, the Bible declares: “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.” (Hebrews 1:1-2) The Son of God Himself is the Message, Messenger, Medium, and Mediator.
1) Message: Lord Jesus is the ultimate message from God to the World. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) The message has the foundation of love, that offers eternal life for those who believe. It is also the message of holiness that those who reject God’s love will perish.
2) Messenger: Lord taught the parable of wicked tenants. The tenants refused to pay the rent or share the crop with the owner, thus his authority was defied and rejected. His servants were dishonored and persecuted. Hence, the master sends his son, with the hope that they may respect him and respond. However, the tenants discussed, determined to be wicked, conspired, and killed him. (Luke 20:14) Many prophets were sent to the People of Israel, but they did not heed. At last, the Son of God was sent, and they crucified him.
3) Medium: Lord Jesus is the medium through which God’s content and character are revealed. God’s eternal attributes are personified in Lord Jesus. Love, holiness, grace, compassion, power, forgiveness, patience, sacrifice … etc., were all exhibited through Him to the world.
4) Mediator: Lord Jesus is the mediator between God and man. He represents God to humans and humans to God. (I Timothy 2:5) God reconciled the world unto Himself through Lord Jesus Christ the mediator. (II Corinthians 5:18-21)
Christ is the ultimate communication of God to humanity.
