There is a historical portrait painted by Thomas Jones Parker that portrays Queen Victoria at Windsor Castle presenting a fine Bible to an unnamed African envoy. Probably the African envoy was Ali bin Nasr, governor of Mombasa, who attended Victoria’s coronation in 1838 and returned in 1842. While handing the Bible, the Queen said that the secret of the greatness of Britain is the Bible.
Nations emerged: After the global flood, the descendants of Noah multiplied. With them, the wickedness and dreams also increased. Instead of scattering and filling the earth, they wanted to build a city and have a tall tower that touches heaven constructed in the city. God decided to frustrate their disobedient and rebellious plan. God confused their single language, and they could not understand each other. Hence, it was a great global migration according to their languages. (Genesis 11)
Great Nation: God decided to judge Sodom and Gomorrah by destroying the cities. However, the Lord decided to confine this to Abraham. God described that: “Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring to Abraham what he has promised him.” (Genesis 18:18-19) By teaching the truth and doing righteousness and justice to his descendants, Abraham would create great nations. It is no wonder that the nations that had the Protestant reformation and revival became great nations in the world. They were not perfect, but God used them as His instruments. The Bible permeated the culture, so that such nations are less corrupt than other nations. Sadly, now, as they reject the Word of God, they face the crisis of identity and also become weak.
Righteousness: The Bible teaches that righteousness exalts a nation. (Proverbs 14:34) It is impossible to know righteousness without knowing the Holy God and receiving His Law. The Law should be preached, taught, and instructed.
Do I wish to see my nation as a great nation?
