Paul had almost been in ministry for about 30 years. He was about 54 years old and did not have further opportunities like this. In Ephesus he used a new strategy of using a public hall to preach and teach for about two years daily. It could be 500 to 600 days, five hours daily. Total hours of 2500 to 3000 hours.
1) Teaching method: Paul would have used different styles of ministry. Preaching, teaching, proving, persuading, dialoguing, debating, discussion and arguing in his method.
2) Suitable venue: The Hall of Tyrannus was not a Bible College or seminary. Tyrannus was either owner of the hall, this hall could be rented out by visiting professors or a hall built in his memory by an institution.
3) Appropriate time: In those times, people used to work in the morning after sunrise and take rest and resume in the evening. Paul chose the resting time between 11 AM to 4 PM for his lectures. Morning hours could have been classes of the institutions, the rest time rent could have been cheaper. Visiting people also could come to listen. Paul also worked, hence used his resting time for preaching. (Acts 20:34)
4) Target audience: The most likely period was 53-54 A.D. His focus was the North East coast of the Mediterranean Sea, comprising most of modern-day Turkey. The estimated population was about 2 million people. All these residents of Asia Minor heard the word. (Acts 19:10)
5) Miracles: The Lord confirmed the ministry of Paul with extraordinary miracles. (Acts 19: 11-12)
6) Copycat ministries: The sons of the high priest Sceva tried to imitate Paul, casting out demons, but were overpowered by demons and fled bruised and naked. (Acts 19:13-16)
7) Magic Arts: People who were practising sorcery, burnt their books and other elements that were worth fifty thousand silver coins. (Acts 19:17-20)
His preaching also brought riots and persecution. However, the Church in Ephesus remained strong though it lost its first love later. (Revelation 2:1-7) How many can share like Paul for five hours daily for two years?
Do I have the zeal to share the gospel?
