The death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ are basic foundational truths for Christians. Those who are in Christ as New Creation, and old have passed away or trashed. (II Corinthians 5:17) Adam and Eve sinned against God in the Garden of Eden. (Genesis 3) That resulted in Fear, Shame, and Guilt. Lord reconciles the world through Lord Jesus Christ and entrusted the ministry of reconciliation to the church. (II Corinthians 5:18; Romans 5:1)
Terrified or Reverential fear? When God visited Adam and Eve, they were afraid and hid themselves. The sin of rebellion and disobedience made them afraid, ashamed, and guilty. They could not stand in the presence of the Holy God. In the Garden of Eden itself, Adam and Eve should have been crucified (the wrath of God poured upon them); as the wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23) Good News is Lord Jesus has borne the sin, and all sinners could approach His presence with reverential fear and faith to receive forgiveness of sins. This Fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom and means to hate evil. (Proverbs 1:7; 8:13)
Shame or Honour? The first couple was ashamed and tried to cover themselves with fig leaves. The leaves would have been itchy and would dry off soon. God was gracious to clothe them with the skin of an animal foretelling the sacrifice and death of the Lamb of God. Those who come to the cross of Calvary in belief, will put away the shame and receive honor and privilege to be His children. (John 1:12) The Prodigal Son (criminal worthy of punishment) was received, embraced, dressed up, and given the status of a son, and a celebration was held. Believers are given the garment of salvation and the robe of righteousness. (Isaiah 61:10; Revelation 3:17,18)
Guilty or Forgiven? Adam and Eve stood guilty before God. Those who come to the cross in faith will be cleansed by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. (I John 1:7) They are no more sinners, but saints called by God.
Do I have the reverential fear, esteemed and forgiven?
