Obey God, not men

Under the rule of kings (Monarchy), there were no ‘rights’ for common people to protest or demand changes. Yet, the people of God resisted what was unrighteous in the sight of God. Here are five examples:

Apostles Refused to stop preaching

The Apostles were warned, flogged, arrested, and instructed not to preach in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ by the Sanhedrin. Yet, they continued to preach the gospel. They replied to the authorities: “We must obey God rather than men.” (Acts 5:27-29)

The midwives Refused to murder

The Egyptian Pharaoh wanted to perpetuate the slavery of the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He was shrewd enough to command the midwives to kill the male babies of Hebrew women during childbirth. The midwives feared God and refused to obey the command of Pharaoh to kill the male babies at birth. (Exodus 1:17)

Parents of Moses Refused to give up children

The Parents of Moses disobeyed Pharaoh’s command to throw male babies into the River Nile. Amram and Jochebed decided not to throw away the male baby when he was born. Wisely, they made a waterproof basket and placed it among the bushes by the river, and Pharaoh’s daughter found him and adopted him. (Exodus 2:1-10)

Three young men Refused to bow before a statue

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego disobeyed Nebuchadnezzar, who built a huge statue plated with gold. The three young men refused to bow down, even when they were thrown into the fire. Lord delivered them, and an angel was with the three men amid the fire. (Daniel 3:13-18)

Daniel Prayed Refused to pray to the king

The 120 Satraps of Babylon conspired against Daniel. They influenced King Darius to pass a law that made all prayers addressed to anyone, except Darius, illegal for thirty days. Daniel, as usual, prayed, ignoring the law. (Daniel 6:10) Though thrown in the lions’ den, he was protected by an angel and delivered.
