Physical and Material Needs
William Barclay quotes a poem in his commentary: the Robin (bird) asks a sparrow why humans are always rushing, worried, and anxious. The sparrow replies: Friend, I think that it must be that they have no Heavenly Father, Such as cares for you and me. There are at least 169 verses in the Bible that teach how God provides for His people.
Heavenly Father Those who repent of their sins and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal savior are graciously given the right to become children of the Living God. (John 1:12) The heavenly Father is a responsible, holy, and caring Father. Even micro things are a matter of concern for Him. God has engraved His children on His palm; He could just look at the profile of any human being, beginning with Adam, just as humans could check the profile of a friend on Facebook. (Isaiah 49:16) Peter exhorts believers to place all worries and anxieties on God, as he cares for us. (I Peter 5:7)
Human anxiety As the sparrow said to Robin (bird), humans do not receive God as their Heavenly Father or live as if He does not exist. The disciples were rebuked for their feeble faith, as they were worried about worldly things. The Lord Jesus Christ pointed to nature. The birds neither sow nor reap, but God, the Creator and Heavenly Father, feeds them without skipping a meal. The grass is clothed with beauty and splendor, though its lifespan is just a day. Instead, the disciples’ priority should be the Kingdom of God and righteousness; then all the human necessities would be freely given. (Matthew 6:25-34)
Promise God meets the needs of a believer according to His divine riches. (Philippians 4:19) God is glorified when the needs of believers are met. The Lord has promises to satisfy the hungry and longing soul with His goodness. (Psalm 107: 9) Prayer of promise is: “Give us this day our daily bread.” (Matthew 6:11)
