Blinded mind transformed to a Renewed mind
Satan promised that eating the forbidden fruit would open the eyes (mind) of Adam and Eve to become like gods. (Genesis 3:5) Tragically, as they ate, Satan blinded their eyes, and through that act of rebellion, the eyes of all humanity. (II Corinthians 4:4) Paul was commissioned to open the eyes (minds) of those blinded by Satan through the proclamation of the gospel. (Acts 26:16-18) We ought to be grateful to God for the transformation of the mind.
Sound Mind and Renewed Mind
Paul exhorts believers not to be conformed to the pattern or fashion of the world but to be transformed by the renewal of the mind. (Romans 12:2) A believer should think, reflect, reason, value, decide and live according to God’s truth rather than the principles of the world. The renewed mind interprets the world through the prism of truth, grace, and wisdom of God, and not by the worldly prism of anxiety, anger, worry, comparison, envy, or lack of faith. A sound mind indicates mental stability, clarity of vision, discernment, values, judgment, and self-control. It is the result of the working of the Holy Spirit in a person. (II Timothy 1:7) It also means emotional regulation and mood control.
God’s will Believers with a transformed mind have the capacity to discern the Will of God, which is pleasant, acceptable and perfect. Their decisions are God-honoring and God-glorifying acts. Hence, they have a life of meaning and purpose.
Free and victorious Those who have sound and renewed minds are delivered from the sinful habits of unwarranted fear, pride, bitterness, resentment, lust, covetousness, greed, worry, and anxiety. Those with sound and renewed minds face temptations of Sin, Satan, and the World with God-given strength, stamina, and wisdom.
Peace and stability The transformed mind experiences peace that surpasses all understanding, that guards and guides the heart. (Philippians 4:7) Those who trust in the Lord shall not be moved or shaken. (Psalm 125:1) They also live at peace with others as they are patient, gracious to forgive, and generous to love others.
