The robot dubbed the ‘Robot Supervisor,’ employed since 2023, was discovered in a heap at the bottom of a stairwell between the first and second floors of the council building, Gumi City. Witnesses described the robot behaving strangely, “circling in one spot as if something was there,” before its untimely descent. This diligent mechanical helper was a jack-of-all-trades. From delivering documents and promoting the city to providing information to residents, the robot was a fixture in the city hall, complete with its civil service officer card. The robot worked from 9 am to 6 pm, tirelessly. many are calling the country’s first “robot suicide.” (India Today, 5 July 2024)
Holy Sabbath: God ordained the Sabbath day as holy. He commanded not to do any work. This command applies to all family members, servants, guests, and even the livestock. God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh day. (Exodus 20:8-11) God does not need rest, but demonstrated to help humans to follow His model.
Physical Rest: Like eating, sleeping, and working, it is natural for humans to rest. God has created humans with a necessity to rest when the physical body renews itself.
Emotional Rest: Being involved in the work, brings stress. Frustration, annoyance, and even anger are the resultant emotions. They are not constructive or beneficial emotions but destructive. People who overwork could become emotional wrecks.
Mental Rest: The Sabbath helps the mind to be relaxed and focus on heavenly things. Sabbath helps to lift from the mundane to higher realms of focus, Eternal Life, and Heaven. Thus, a person’s mind is renewed with eternal perspective. (Romans 12:2)
Spiritual Rest: God ordained the Sabbath as the Spiritual Rest. The focus is on God and His amazing work of redemption. The death, burial, and resurrection teach us that our salvation is an accomplished fact and believers should enter the rest in faith. (Hebrews 4:9) A Christian spiritual life is resting on God’s Promises, Purpose, and Call, and living out His love and glory in this world.
Do I have the discipline of Sabbath Rest?
