A farmer died, leaving behind his lazy son. He thought he was free to enjoy his life. He never went to the field; he, with his friends and servants, ate food and finished the stock of grains and seeds that was kept for sowing. Then he realized he had to sow seeds, water, and harvest to have food on the table. (Proverbs 24:30-34) The Bible teaches us to sow the Word of God and invest time and wealth in His Kingdom.
Save seeds: Joseph had to save the surplus grains and seeds for seven years, so that the people would not go hungry and starve to death. (Genesis 41:48)
Bag full: People of God are Sowers; hence, their seed bags must be full. A handful of seeds in the bag is not enough. The Word of God is compared to the seed. Hence, a disciple should learn, understand, memorize, and meditate on the Word of God. And should always be ready to sow the seed in the hearts and minds of men and women. Sowing should always happen. The Parable of the Sower teaches that on many soils, the seed won’t be snatched, but will take root, sprout, and bear fruit. (Matthew 13:1-23)
Sow abundantly: The Bible teaches believers to sow abundantly or bountifully, to reap abundantly. (II Corinthians 9:6) To sow abundantly, there is a need for a lot of seeds. Lazy and negligent people will sow sparingly; hence, they reap very little.
Sow Systematically: Sowers should sow systematically. They should know the season of sowing and understand the time of rain. Also, sow in the ploughed and readied land, where there are no rocks beneath, and weeds do not harm plants. Sowers do not bury sacks of grain in the field but distribute them wisely.
Sow with hope: Farmers sow with hope. As Paul writes, one can sow the seed, another can water, but God gives the increase. (I Corinthians 3:6) After the seed is sown, the Sower has no control over the seed.
