The reason for plagues

God is the Sovereign God who rules over all nations. All nations are subject to Him and He will demand accounts from them, punish and judge them. Why did God send the Ten Plagues to Egypt? The plagues destroyed Egypt; they could not conquer the fleeing slaves. There are several reasons for the plagues.
Who is the Lord? The Egyptians believed that Pharaoh was a living god and several other gods. When Moses told Pharaoh, God commanded him to let His people go; Pharoah questioned: Who is the Lord? The plagues, signs, and wonders demonstrated the true living God.
God’s Power displayed: Indeed, God raised Pharaoh as the ruler of Egypt. So that God could show, demonstrate, and display His awesome power. That would make other nations understand that Power belongs to God. (Exodus 9:16)
Testimony to Israel: The Nation of Israel should proclaim this truth of God’s righteous judgment on Egypt to their children. The generations may know Jehovah as the creator and redeemer of God. (Exodus 10:2) The descendants of Israel were commanded to teach about God, His love towards Israel, Promise, Covenant, Law, and history.
Judgment on False gods: Egyptians were blinded by Satan, hence they continued to worship the false gods. Each plague was a judgment of a specific god of Egypt. God judged the gods of Egypt: Hapi, Isis, Khunum, Heqet, Set, Re or Ra, Uatchit, Hathor, Apis, Sekhmet, Nut, Osiris, Horus, and Min.

To warn nations: The nations around remembered that God is righteous, he judges the nations. Rahab told the spies about how her people knew about God’s mighty deeds for Israel and against Egypt. (Joshua 2:10-11) Even after 400 years, the Philistines remembered the Lord God of Israel as the one who plagued the Egyptians. (I Samuel 4:8)

Testimony of Greatness of God: There is no other God of any other nation who did signs and wonders and delivered His people. (Deuteronomy 4:34) “Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?” (Exodus 15:11)

Do I know this awesome God?
