Walking in Faith

Paul exhorts believers to walk by faith. (II Corinthians 5:7) That means trusting God, not on what is visible, predictable, and controllable. It means to have a divine perspective, be steadfast, and be in a dynamic relationship with God. Peter’s walking on sea provides five principles to walk in faith. (Matthew 14:25-33)

Listen to His Word:
The Lord spoke to the terrified disciples in the boat and encouraged them not to be afraid, and to be of good cheer. Peter requested; hence, he received a call to walk on water. He obeyed the call by walking on the water. It was not just a call but a Promise to do what was humanly challenging. A believer should consistently listen to His voice that encourages and establishes them. The Bible also inspires His people to do great things, as Peter was inspired to walk on water.

Focus on Jesus:
Peter’s only focus and destination was the Lord. In the dark and cloudy night, he could not see anything else. Jesus is the light, and he has to walk in His light. He enlightens each believer, to walk in light. (John 1:9)

Keep walking:
It is not just seeing the Lord, Peter had to keep progressing toward Him. Other disciples could sit and watch, but Peter had to walk. He cannot stand as standing means sinking, hence only walk. The Christian life is walking in love, grace, and wisdom, using every opportunity, toward the heavenly calling.

Do not get distracted:
Peter was disturbed, distracted, and afraid of the tumultuous sea. He lost his focus and saw the danger and death of drowning in the deep sea.

In Danger – call:
Peter immediately called upon the Lord, who immediately extended His hand and lifted him. Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” (Jeremiah 33:3) As long as disciples are in the world, they will face temptations, tensions, troubles, and tribulations. Always should seek the Lord who is the ultimate deliverer of help.
