Little or Feeble Faith

On a few occasions, the Lord rebuked the disciples for their little faith. It was in the contexts of fear, worry, and doubt that are enemies of faith. (Matthew 8:26; Matthew 6:30; Matthew 14:31) Faith increases when a person gets victory over these three enemies.

Genuine faith:
Even though the faith was little like the mustard seed, the faith is genuine. It is better than being without faith or being unfaithful.

Situations:
Litter faith happens due to circumstances. A confident Peter walked on water looking at Jesus, the moment he saw the tumultuous sea, he began to sink. Peter again stumbled when the Lord was arrested, and he denied the Lord thrice before the cock crew twice. (Matthew 26:69-75)

Exaggeration:
Little faith exaggerates the hostile situation or the enemy’s strength. The Ten Spies exaggerated the realities as enemies and could not enter the Promised Land.

Signs:
People with little faith, look for signs. They need additional assurance or guarantee. Gideon wanted a sign, though God spoke to him. (Judges 6:17-18) Sometimes, God is gracious to give signs but refuses to unfaithful and rebellious people like the Pharisees and Herod. (Matthew 16:4; Luke 23:8))

Safe:
Little faith is safe faith, as the person knows to call the Lord for help. And the Lord is nearby. Lord does neither crush a weak reed nor quench the flickering candle. (Isaiah 42:3) People of little faith are strong in praying and depending on God.

Obedient:
Little faith people are obedient but struggle to be steadfast in their walk with the Lord. Peter was obedient to the call of the Lord, he came out of the boat and started walking on the water. But, losing focus, he began to sink. Consistent focus and constant listening are keys for obedience, that leads to victory.

Accomplishment:
Little faith could accomplish great things. Peter walked on water with a little faith. With a mustard seed size faith, a person can see wonders like mountains being removed or mulberry trees uprooted and planted in the sea. (Matthew 17:20: 21:21)
